Hélène Cambier began playing the violin at the age of four. After studying violin, composition, choral conducting, orchestral conducting and pedagogy at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels, Liège and Mons, she currently teaches composition and composition methodology at the Royal Conservatories of Liège and Mons, music education pedagogy at the Haute École Normale of He2B Brussels/Nivelles, and composition, analysis, music history and instrumental ensemble at the academies of La Louvière and Soignies.

Alongside this classical background, she has also performed on violin and conducted orchestras and projects in rock, Cuban and pop music, working with artists such as Miam Monster Miam, Zop Hop Hop, The Moon Invaders, My Little Cheap Dictaphone, Tony Avila, Wendy Nazaré and Kel Assouf. She has also been a regular member of the Les Musiciens d'Europe orchestra for more than 20 years.

Since 2016, she has been applying her compositional and writing techniques to her group Soie, an original pop songwriting project featuring her own lyrics in English. The project combines composition, vocals and classical and contemporary instrumental practice, centred around piano and string trio. Driven by a constant desire for creativity, the group sometimes performs as a trio, adapting to a wide range of sometimes unexpected concert venues: forges, bottle kilns, boat lifts and more.

In 2019, Hélène met Alonza Bevan, bassist of Kula Shaker, who had recently moved from London to Belgium. Enthusiastic about Soie after hearing the group, he offered to help Hélène produce the album. The production process revealed a perfect balance between Hélène’s subtle musical sensibility and the energy of Britpop and rock. Soie’s debut album, Loving Essence, immediately received two awards: the Louviérois de l’Année Award in the Culture category and the 2020 PointCulture Award at the Octaves de la Musique.
