Founded in 2023, the Musique Femmes Festival seeks to shine a spotlight on women composers whose work has too often remained overlooked. Despite growing awareness in recent years, women composers—whether in classical, jazz, popular, or contemporary music—continue to be underrepresented in concert programmes, major venues, and educational institutions. The festival is dedicated to making their music heard and their artistic contributions visible.

While its roots lie in classical music, the festival has, from the outset, embraced a broad artistic vision by opening its programme to other genres in which women creators have also been historically underrepresented, including jazz, contemporary music, and singer-songwriter traditions.

Like many cultural initiatives today, the Musique Femmes Festival faces the challenges of declining public funding for the arts and education. Yet sustaining a festival requires financial support, not least to ensure that the artists who bring it to life are fairly compensated.
